To Root or Not To Root

Just got my brand new thunderbolt right out of the box

should i root my new thunderbolt or not?

What are the pro's of rooting these days?

Cakes, too funny!

You can control/alter almost everything about the way the phone looks, you can overclock, run Custom Roms, plus tons more.

If you don't care about overclocking or wireless/wired tethering or backing up your apps and your entire phone or a host of other things, no, no reason to.

It's up to you though and not for everybody ;)

My last phone was rooted so I am familiar with the process i'm just wondering what exactly the perks are of rooting.

Tethering is no longer an issue bc of the hot spot capabilities

THere is no need to overclock the thunderbolt everything works fast enough

custom roms were always just a head ache for me i prefer function over design

so the only benefits left I know about are screentshots, backups, and removing bloatware.

Am I missing anything?

Battery life! A good undervolted kernel does wonders! That and bloatware removal drastically increased my battery life!

Rooting in and of itself would do nothing to change your phone, what did you do with it after you rooted?

Some apps need to have root access. Also you mentioned the hotspot access without root. Sure you can do that....if you are willing to pay for it. If you root it, its free. Also some file managers, app managers, even flashlight apps need root access. The person that mentioned that root access won't mess with your phone was correct...if it got messed up, you are doing something wrong....

Only thing keeping my from rooting is how slow my old Droid seemed at certain times with some roms. and I don't wanna slow this phone down

Just because you root your phone does not mean that you have to load a custom rom...

that will cost a fortune after may 15th. 20$ for 2gb and 10$ for each gb after that. Considering I've used 130gb last month, I'm going to root and use wireless tether after mid may.
