Well first, how have you come to this conclusion, was it on your bill or while tethering were you prompted to log in or sign up?

Of course they are. Some new phones are coming with a tethering app built in and you have to pay to use it.

Technically, tethering was never free because if you read the terms of service, you weren't supposed to do it. However, if you have been using the rooted tethering app up to this point, just keep using it and you won't have to pay. Unless you abuse it and they catch you.

Verizon has always charged for tethering. If you are rooted and using wifi tether, you are breaking their TOS. I don't feel like uploading a picture, so here:

Im rooted and using froyo. I did what i always do, plug in select tethering option, and I cant connect on my PC. When I try to surf on the Droid I now get some wierd sign-up screen for a paid tethering feature from verizon. I went to the Verizon sight and the have tethering Data plans now for 5Gigs.....I cant believe there going to go this route.

Ok guess I will stick with Wireless tether for Root users... I just hate how hot my phone gets from using that program.... Its always better for me to plug in... Thanks for the quick reply guys...

Is there currently any wired tether apps similar to the wireless one that will work on the droid other than the Native USB tether/ Hotspot???

I just searched the market for "tether" and a few different apps came up. Might be worth the time trying out a few of them just to see if you prefer any of those to the wireless tether app. I haven't really used any of them, so I can't recommend one.

Otherwise, I'd just say, hang in there and i'm sure someone will come up with a workaround that gets wired tethering to work again.

I cant believe there going to go this route.

It is Verizon we are talking about...they love money

True because Verizon is the only company that charges for tethering...

To the OP.. You shouldnt be shocked, you wernt supposed to tether in the first place consider wireless tether basically like stealing from Verizon. So nw that they are going to offer a tethering plan like Blackberry or any other smartphone on any carrier it really shouldnt surprise you. But like someone said just keep using wireless tether and dont abuse it and you should be fine. :)

I tried to use WiFi tethering (for root users) about an hour ago to tether a friend's Droid that wasn't getting good service, but he wasn't picking up my signal, don't know why it isn't working...
