EFFING AWESOME!!! You would not believe the trouble that I was going through trying to find the best way to root my new DroidX 2.2 version 2.3.151.
1. Simply go here http://handheld.softpedia.com/get/System-Utilities/Enhancements/z4root-110178.shtml to download Z4Root from Softpedia.
2. Then transfer that file to your SD card.
3. Navigate to it using your prefered file manager (Root Explorer, Astro...)
4. Select the file for install
5. Reboot phone
6. Start Z4ROOT
7. Then select temporary or permanent.

The rest will take care of itself. HAPPY ROOTING!!

Lol... don't be sad. This is a time to rejoice for some. I enjoyed learning the hard way, it made the reward that much more sweet. Its my ole lady that's the one who will be relieved. All that's left for me to do is wait for SimplyStunningX v.1.1 to finish downloading and I will be all set.

2. Then transfer that file to your SD card.

Has Z4ROOT been updated to work on Droid 1 now as well?

If you follow the link provided they claim that it works on ALL android devices. It worked on my DX but when I had the D1 I did it the old fashioned way. Hope it works for ya!
If I were you I would be sure that you are current on version updates. menu>settings>about phone>software updates (that's for junior droids like me). I am working on fixing that little problem right now.

I know, I've read all the post already too. You just never know when someone might find another exploit hole in frg83d 2.2.1, I was hoping that Z4ROOT found that hole.

because?....well because I'm lazy and wanted to root my daughter's og Droid the easy way. I guess rsdlite here I come.

Oh! I so sorry masta droid. Thanks for pointing out my ignorance for not doing a search for something that I only just discovered after hours and hours of reading. Maybe those dozens of threads were playing hide and go seek with me, the guy who didnt know he was supposed to already know without being told or stumbling upon it while I was in the middle of gathering download after download of SPF and driver crap while I sifted through set after set of incomplete instructions. OR, maybe I am just some idiot who thought he would try to help someone else who is in the same boat with me. So it would be helpful if you guys could keep this forum clean of useless dribble and let somebody who needs it have less "days of our lives" and more informative tasklist and ideas.
My bad for getting excited after being up all night. That is all.

Why you guys being so hard on him? He was just posting info that HE thought was relevant. He posted, I asked a question, should have been the end of it. I've gained root both ways...Easyroot and the so called hard way...both successful. There's no wrong way to obtain root...root is root no matter how you get there.

Remember change is good...if not for simple change we would still be pushing carts around with square wheels.

But are the fixes easy? Yeah, if you ask me they are.

But how many people who used ONLY a oneclick would even know what adb was? Or a sbf? Not many.

So, my look on things is that oneclicks give people who have no business messing with their phones in such a way access to ways to easily mess up their phones.

Research is good, but it doesn't beat ignorance and lazyness.

And my post weren't directed to him inperticular, but rather the thought of oneclicks in general. BAH..
