Texting through computer

I hope this makes sense. Is there a website that I can basically have all my texts go through my computer when at work instead of using my phone? So I can recieve texts and send texts over the internet without the need to get my phone out.

Any help is appreciated. I searched but came up with nothing.

Google Voice would allow you to use your google voice number and your Google account to accomplish this. You could receive and send text, you would have to use a different number then your Verizon number.

Verizon also offers texting via computer through their website but there would be only the notification from your phone. Come to think of it, GV works that way too. You can go in from time to time to see what text you have available.

Yeah I use gtalk. Wasn't sure if there was a website that allows you to send and recieve messages over the internet without needing your phone.

Google Voice. It has exactly what you need.

You do have to have a phone number, GV gives you that. It even picks it out for you. But you can do everything from you GV page on the internet. No MMS.

I dont think GV does what Im looking for. GV gives you a new number correct? Or can you sync your real cell number through it so you still recieve all your messages from your phone? Maybe I'm over looking it.

Yes you can. If you have unlimited text you can have your messages from your phone delivered to your GV number. Here's what you need to do. You have an option in the first setting to change or port your number. One of the options is to port your mobile number to GV. Once you've done that, all your calls and text will come through Google voice via your mobile number.

Some text messages don't get delivered to GV.
And text messages from GV sent to (some?) short numbers don't get sent.

sms2pc does exactly what you need.

There is an app in the market and a chrome extension called "texty". Its in beta, you need to request an invite, I was accepted into it. Whenever you're browsing the web on chrome, a small pop up (non intrusive) will appear on the bottom right with the message text and a button to reply. Its extremely convenient. Google "texty" and apply for their beta.
