Can my Droid phone set up different text notification sounds for specific people? Just curious asI would like to know without looking if it is from a family member VS a mass text mailing. Thabnks, this is a great place. I am definetely a newbie.

I don't think the default messaging application does it, but Handcent does. I use it for exactly the reason you mention, and it's great. Different ring tone, different LED light, different notification icon in the notification bar. It's great.

I second Handcent SMS. It's a great app, free and does exactly what you're asking for. Also has a neat popup feature. It gets in the way at times but still a neat all-in-one SMS app.
