teach me everything I need to know about rooting....please

I just got my droid incredible 2 and I got pre installed apps I want to get a rid of. I know nothing aboout rooting and I want to learn someone can you teach. I just got my phone and I don't want to screw it up so can somebody who knows what they are doing tell me please. I mean I don't even get what rooting is, I jus read that rooting can get rid of my pre installed apps. so I would really appreciate it if someone could help me . thanks for your time

there are so many threads on here u can read up on, for ur device. just be sure u know how to get ur self out of a jam when/if it happens.
