If you want to root your phone easily and install roms you're best bet is to just go with a Nexus device. Nexus devices are built specifically for developers and as such are the most dev friendly devices available. Phone's on T-Mobile's network came with an unlockable bootloader for several years, but even phones on T-Mobile are being locked down by OEMs. Verizon and AT&T have locked down devices for several years. This has meant that if we want root and roms on these devices we have to rely on developers and security experts to develop root methods and bootloader unlock methods.
