Stupid Question?

I can't believe I'm really going to ask this, since I have a feeling I already know the answer. However...

Is there a fundamental difference between the DX and DX2 that would not allow those custom roms to be interchangeable?
Experience with my wife's D2G tells me that most, if not all D2 roms won't run on the Global. Part of me thinks that there shouldn't be a large enough difference between the X and X2, but again, given what I've seen on the D2/D2G differences, I wanted to ask.

The ROMs for the DX and DX2 are not interchangeable
