Anyone know how to keep the S7 Edge screen from lighting up every time a new text message is received? I can't seem to nail it down. May have started happening after last update, but I'm not certain.

Using Verizon Messages+ for texting. There's no settings within the app that I can see that would cause it.

I've tried tweaking all my Samsung display settings (Always On, Smart Stay, etc, etc) to no avail.

Welcome to the Forum @G671.

Have you tried this?

To change your text message alert preferences:

  1. Go to the Email and Text Alert Preferences page in My Verizon.
  2. Click Edit Preferences.
  3. Check the box next to each phone number you want to receive or not receive alerts for in each category of alerts.
  4. Click Save.

Welcome to the forum
Back when I used VM+ it had a pop up setting and within that it had an option to wake the screen or not. Maybe that has changed since then.

No, I haven't seen a setting like that. I'll check again, though

Yeah, I see the popup/lockscreen settings, but they're not enabled. Never have been.

I'm not getting pop-ups from the message app. The screen just turns on, and I see the lock screen notification. Even when I turn THAT off in display settings, the screen still turns on.

Have you tried a different texting app?

I know when I had my last Samsung phone, the screen would come on like that with every text using the Samsung messaging app, but when I switched to Hangouts or Google Messenger, that was no longer happening.

I'll maybe disable Message+ later tonight, and switch to something else to test that theory. At the very least, I'll be able to eliminate the suspect.

The link I posted had something about a light that lights up along the edge when the phone is face down as a possible setting to look at. Seemed pretty cool but I'd find that frustrating if I couldn't find a way to disable it.

Nope, it's not that.

After further research, I found a Verizon Message+ review on Google Play Store from another S7 Edge user who said the same thing. So, I emailed Verizon to complain. It's looking like it's a glitch in the app. I'll try to confirm that tonight by switching.

Yep. I uninstalled Verizon Message, and went back to Chomp. Sure enough, Chomp has a "Screen Comes On" setting to wake the screen up for a few seconds, and it can be turned off. Verizon's app obviously is doing this by design, with no off switch. Everything's working just fine now :)

Damn, that was a lot of work for something so trivial.
