slow to detect and connect to wifi

Hi all,

I don't currently have a verizon data plan so I set my droid to switch from wifi to 3G when the screen is locked. This just shuts off the wifi when the screen is locked (I do the same thing with my old iPhone 3G).

However, when I unlock the screen again, it takes quite a long time to reconnect to our wireless router. (I timed it at 3 minutes of scanning)

Is this normal or is there perhaps an issue? Note this is Froyo...
