should I root after next update?

I'm getting interested in rooting my Droid but wondering if I should just wait for the update. Also I've rooted my iPhone and pre before, is it just as easy to root the Droid?

You should root now for 2 reasons; 1- we don't know when/if the 2.1 is actually coming OTA and 2-it's not yet known if root will be obtainable (or rather 'how' it will be obtained) after the OTA. In addition there are MANY great cooked ROMs based off of the package that Moto/VZW said they will use that are already running far better than the OTA will if/when it is ever released (i.e. so why wait?).

Best place to start (note it's down now but should be back on the 1st):

What is "rooting" ??

basically you are unlocking your phone... have you ever heard a term " jailbroken iphone"? same thing... after rooting you can change your cpu speeds (need to download app from the market, setcpu), you can install different roms so you can customize your phone... it "frees" your phone..

Mmmm....ya! Do it anyhow! The OTA will probably not be as good as some of the roms that are currently floating around. They are very stable and offer so much to the little robots capability.

Anybody heard if 2.1 ESE81 is getting close to being rooted by itself? Not going back to 2.0.1. It would be a shame if it can't.
