Shortcut to wrong app?

I'm using the original Motorola Droid. Occasionally, when I hit the Messaging icon, my phone goes to either The Weather Channel or Facebook app. I'm using Android 2.2.1, but it's done this with earlier versions too. Powering down and restarting seems to be the only solution.
