I shattered my droid screen this pass weekend and I would like to buy a new one but i don't want to pay full retail price. VZ is asking for 289.99. Do you all of of another way I can get a legit one without breaking the bank? (I didn't have insurance on my phone)

well now you learned your lesson about having insurance, dont be cheap and just pay the 5 or 6 bucks a month for 60 bucks a year for insurance, and then when you place a claim 50 bucks for a new phone still better then paying almost full retail! goodluck! i dont know about you but id rather pay the combined 110 or so ( for insurance and to replace a broken phone) then 3-500 for a new one all because i didnt feel like paying 5 bucks a month...lesson learned

*The insurance deductible on a smartphone is $90, not $50. More but, still better than paying the $500 for a new one.

chenning1284,

I wasn't being cheap. I thought I did put insurance on this phone.

You could still buy the insurance and then say you cracked it later... but I would not recommend doing that... insurance fraud is a felony

They're offering you a new phone for $289.99!? You had better take that offer, because you *will not* see a better one.

Used phones on eBay are still $350+, and that $289.99 is like, half of retail for the Droid.

By the way... how did you manage to crack the gorilla glass? :icon_eek:

Maybe because "gorilla glass" is full of ****? lol.

It's not different than any other glass phone screen, it's simply scratch resistant.

hmm i never had to pay more then 50 for any phone including blackberry, i wonder if that 90 is new

Blackberry was really the only "smartphone" for a while but, now with this 'smartphone explosion' - multiple companies are producing smart devices, and so carriers make a whole new insurance section devoted to "advanced devices" so they can charge more.

Actually it is different.

I cracked my screen within a month of owning my droid, didn't have insurance. The guy at verizon said the same thing to me. He also said that I should sign up for insurance and then wait the thirty days for my insurance to kick in. I don't know how to do it if u had ur phone for more than thirty days. Word to the wise.....if u don't get insurance, get the best protection case money can buy, its worth it.

289.99 isn't even full retail (try 500+). Consider yourself lucky.

Gorilla Glass is scratch and shatter resistant. That doesn't mean that you can't scratch or crack it.
