Severe Heat problem/ not charging

i plopped me phone down on my nightstand and charged it for about 2 hours, upon coming back the phone only went from 20% to 50% and the phone was burning hot. I realized that mobile lookout was performing a back up but i don't see how that is an excuse for it to get that hot. The battery reported 51 Celsius 0.o

I just turned off my phone to allow it to cool down but my phone is completely stock, no mods roots or addons besides a snap on case.

I am posting this because I am concerned and this is the first time this has happened could it be because the backing up of my data caused the CPU to run which made it become hot and made it require more juice so it didnt charge for 2 hours? I simply don't know.

has anyone else experienced something like this?
