Sending signals over USB

I am working on a remote controlled electronics project and I had the interesting idea of using my DROID as an RX receiver. I could easily connect to it through the web, but I would like to be able to send and possibly even receive data through the USB port on the phone. I can send and receive serial signals from my microprocessor, but how would I interface that to the USB port? Have it emulated as a serial port? How is this done in Java? Any help/insight would be greatly appreciated.

If I remember right. You would need to be able to turn the droid into a hub. I believe there is a software hack that would be needed for this. I remember the same situation with the iphone 3G:icon_ banana:. If i were you I would research it to see if the had any luck with that and use it as a stepping stone.
