Searching for An Answer D1 to D2 Question

I really have been searching for two reasons. 1, I remember seeing this question being asked already and 2, I hate it when somebody say's "I've searched for this…."

Well, before I was interested in getting the Droid 2 I saw the question but I can't find it so I'll ask it a bit differently.

Those of you who went from the D1 to the D2, I'd appreciate any "what to do" tips for a smooth transition.

I'm going to make a copy of my SD card, but I don't want all the junk that's on there now to transfer over So I plan on being selective when I do this.

Now comes the real question. I was rooted on my D1 and put many apps on the SD card. I do not intend to root D2, at least not now. I want something simple to use to root when I get around to it.

Can I pull those apps off my SD card that are installed there and move to my new Droid somehow? I know they will be in the Market waiting on me but I'd rather keep them on my SD card.

Edited by myself :D

Have you thought of keeping the 16GB for the D2 (erasing and reformatting it first that is)?

By the way, this thread is borderline...you might think of deleting it ;)

Hook, if you are referring to apps you have gotten from the Market, the best (non-root) way would be to, on your D1 move everything from your SD card back to the system of your device, then inside of Root Explorer copy the entire data/app folder and paste it to the root of your SD

When you transfer the material to the SD of your D2 make sure you bring this folder with you, still on your D2 you will still have to get a file manager from the Market, after that you would be able to go into that folder and install those apps by pressing them and choosing install (depending on which file manager you have the process will differ). They would be installed into the system of your D2

Then you would be able to move them back to your Droid 2's SD card inside of manage/applications

No can do. I don't have root explorer on the D1 anymore. I already unrooted the darn thing. Can't I just drag and drop into one folder and then move on to the SD of the D2?

Apps2sd doesn't keep the entire app on your SD card, the part that actually "launches" tha app is still stored in the system of your phone, so that .android_secure partition on your SD card is worthless by itself, this is part of the security measure put in place

You also can use Astro to do a backup of all your apps to your SD card on
the d1, then restore on your new phone or just hold onto them.

Not wanting the extra bloat from the d1 card: I imagine that if you have no pictures, no ringtones, no music you want, then you can just take those backed up apps and be good to go. Last I knew you needed to be rooted to back up app data but I don't know if that's changed recently.

btw..That is the installation program of the apps...not the entire installed app that Astro backs up.

I plan on taking all my music and pictures and ringtones.

May not be as easy as I thought.

Which means like on stuff like Home Run Battle 3D I'm going to lose all my stuff again. Bummer
