Was anyone else surprised that Scotland elected to to remain with the UK? I thought their independence was a done deal. Was it for financial reasons they elected to stay?

The official reason was because parliament is actually giving them a greater say so in matters than before and the prime minister has pledged even greater voice for them. I forget what the term they used was.
Why the voters actually heavily favored staying I do not know.
