[Rumor] Amazon's Mythical Smartphone Might Finally Come in 2014

Although I definitely wouldn't hold out too much hope of this actually happening, another rumor has cropped up suggesting Amazon will finally be ready to make their move into the mobile smartphone arena later this year. This latest intel comes from DigiTimes and claims that several supply chain manufacturers are ramping up production on a smartphone for Amazon. Here's a quote with the scoop,

The smartphone supply chain is starting to prepare smartphone component orders from Amazon for a device set to release in 2014, according to industry sources.

The sources said that Amazon is finally ready to mass produce a smartphone in 2014, with orders starting to be sent to the supply chain as of March 2014, including to companies such as FIH Mobile.

The sources added Amazon has undergone multiple revisions to the smartphone including screen size and resolution in order to meet current market trends.

Sound off if you think it's a good idea for Amazon to jump in this already crowded and stifled mobile phone market.

If it does finally get released, I guess they'll sell it cheap and have it's software neutered like the Kindle Fire. As in, it can't get to the playstore so all apps and purchases have to go thru amazon.

The amazon app store sucks. Most commonly used apps aren't available. To get 1/2 the apps we use, I had to root the kindle fire. I'm boycotting Amazon until they change their ways.
