Look for the super user ninja. But using terminal emulator is will make sure your rooted. When you type in: su, the following line should return: #, if rooted.
There's a screen shot of what the newer Superuser app looks like:

Its the skull and cross bones. The older SU app looked like a ninja.

Don't worry about the export path that's always there. just type in: su
the next line should return: #
if your rooted.

Hey I have a droid x and my dad is very hesitant on letting me root it. What is something I can say to convince him that it is safe and not going to harm my phone? I will use z4 root which is pretty simple I have 2.2.1

Any help is appreciated!

Why root it if it is his phone and he is hesitant about it?

My primary reason for rooting is to be able to use the custom recovery to make full nandroid type backups. Maybe the idea of full backups to save data and settings will appeal to him?

It is my phone he just pays the bill...he is a tech geek and knows alot about linux and rooting he just says he does not want to void warranty and I tell him that If I take to verizon I unroot and that is the part he is sketchy about...I need it for custom roms and wifi tether **** but he says I can live without it...that's the problem
