Rooting vs. Needs

Many people on this forum have rooted there phone, and some have not. Apparently rooting is not always good. I rooted because it gave me better 3G connection.

Advantages of Rooting:

Custom Roms/Themes
Can remove bloatware
Faster roms
Choose Blur or no Blur
Different Kernels
Custom Apps
Better 3G connection
In all, you can just do more

Disadvantage of Rooting:

Picture and Video messages will not send
Takes longer for OTA updates
Random Reboots

Now, i would like to know how i can keep root but still be able to send pics/videos to people. Im rooted because it keeps my battery lasting longer, no bloatware constantly running. I am on stock rom and rooted. Is there a fix to this mms problem? Handcent and other apps do not fix this.

two of those three disadvantages dont apply to rooting, you can still send picture and video messages while rooted and random reboots dont usually happen because youre rooted, a lot of people experience them even when unrooted (although it could be a problem with a custom rom, but that pertains to the rom and not the root itself). it does take A LOT longer to get an OTA update while rooted though if you have frozen bloatware or are using a custom rom.

I have no problems with pictures and videos and I'm rooted. Verizon says to pull your phone battery while your phone is still on. I guess it's a hard reset. That might take care of your problem???? It helped me a few times.

Also random reboots dont have anything to do with root... only if you flash a new rom, and even then if you wipe a flash first you'll most likely be fine.

If you install a custom rom you will always be able to be on the newest os build. So no need for ota updates.

So none of your disadvantages are accurate IMO.

Try a full wipe and clear cache then reinstall your rom to fix your picture and video messages.

so before trying this i tried sending a picture again, it worked. then i tried sending another it didnt work. did the battery pull and was able to reboot and send a 2nd picture. tried sending a 3rd and it wouldnt send. i turned off wifi, and sent the 3rd pic, it worked. tried sending the 4th, it worked. sent a few more to make sure and it worked. tried videos and that worked as well. i guess you cannot send pictures while having wifi on. /:

You did a good job of narrowing it down. :) I'm still waiting for bluetooth to work in my truck radio.

Random reboots - Are you freezing Apps/bloat? I had random reboots with the stock music app frozen, defrosted it and havent had an issue since.....

yes i do have quite a few apps frozen, but i did heavy testing to see what i was able to freeze to have no problems, so it cant be that. but im on the phone with very high level tech now seeing what can be done with all my other problems with verizon.

sending mms does not necessarily have some thing to do with rooting. My stock unrooted rom sometime had this kind of issue before but after I sbfing it, all is fine.
If you root your phone, you can set your battery showing % unit and also disable vibration when pressing four keys. A lot of thing to for you to DIY.
