rooting the droid

Hey guys i am new to the droid world and I have read all the forums on here I have the new ota 2.1 update and was wondering what I need to do to root it. i know that there is not a root for the 2.1 and that you have to go to the previous ota but what do I need to do to do that, And would there be a lot of benefit to rooting it.

You will find all you need in the hacking section of the forum. Most of the vital threads have been sticked at the top, just as most forums do.

so mwhartman that link you gave me the 2.1 update and the root 2.1 is that what i need after i go back to 2.0.1 to up date it to 2.1 again
