Root Droid 1 to Sourcery? for a noob?!!

Hey All.
This will be my first time rooting and everything. I have done some reading and well... I'm not much of a techie. I am looking for the simplest and easiest way to get from point A to point B.
So far.
I plan to use DMUupdater to root the phone.
Now I'm lost at what I need to do to get the Sourcery Rom Up and running.

I have 2.2.1 version. Is that safe?
