Resuming Playback on music

First post and I did try to search out an answer, but either I am not searching for the right thing or I am an idiot, or both.

I listen to a lot of audio books that I get at the library, rip to mp3 files and import to my phone. I used to do this on my iPhone but with the Droid, whenever I stop listening and close the music player or music player apps, it doesn't remember where I left off and I have to try to remember and fast forward to the point where I quit listening. Obviously this is quite annoying and a PITA.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
