i just bought my first Droid phone, i got the Motorola Droid.. i also did the most recent system update (2.1).. now my problem is i use the USB Cable to connect the Droid to my Laptop, i "Mount" it and it reads it fine and a window pops up and it names it as "Removable Disk Drive F:" ... now what?

i thought it would be under "General Options" where i would go to "Open Folder To View Files" and just click and drag my MP3s into the folder and it would be transferred like that but i guess i am way off..

sorry for sounding like a complete noob (i really am though haha)..:icon_eek:

Welcome aboard, BkDroid87! There are a couple of ways to go about this:

MUSIC/RINGTONES/VIDEOS: Transfer music or video files between the Droid and the PC (non-root solution)

1. Connect the device to the computer with the USB cable
2. From the Droid home screen, pull down the Notification bar, located at the top of the screen (or you can also press the Menu Key on the front of your Droid and then select Notifications)
3. Select USB Connected
4. Select Mount
5. You can now explore the ‘Removable Disk’ that is now connected to your computer and create a music folder directly on the 16GB SD card in your phone. (For any accompanying artwork in JPEG format, rename the art file albumart.jpg and copy in the same folder as the music files.)
7. To further organize files, create a subfolder in the newly created music folder and copy desired music files into it.
8. Touch ‘Turn Off USB Storage’ on the Droid
9. Touch ‘Turn Off’
10. Disconnect the USB cable from the computer

(See also How to add custom ringtones and notifications sound to your phone below to organize all of your media, if desired.)
How to add custom ringtones and notification sounds to your phone:

1. Connect the device to the computer with the USB cable
2. From the Droid home screen, pull down the Notification bar, located at the top of the screen (or you can also press the Menu Key on the front of your Droid and then select Notifications)
3. Select USB Connected
4. Select Mount
5. From your computer explore the ‘Removable Disk’ which is actually your SD card.
6. Create a folder called Media directly on your SD card, and then create these subfolders inside the Media folder so you should see this structure when browsing the SD card:
Media/Audio (Located inside Media folder)
Media/Notifications (Located inside Audio folder)
Media/MP3s (Located inside Audio folder)
Media/Ringtones (Located inside Audio folder)
Media/Alarms (Located inside Audio folder)

Then just drop your files into the appropriate folder, and assign your personalized ringtones to contacts, email, and the alarm clock.

OR you can try this:

How to sync iTunes with your Droid:

Full synchronization requires a 3rd party application which has Windows and Mac support.
1.
Download and install doubleTwist.
2. Connect the device to the computer with the USB cable
3. From the Droid home screen, pull down the Notification bar, located at the top of the screen (or you can also press the Menu Key on the front of your Droid and then select Notifications)
4. Select USB Connected
5. Select Mount
6. Launch doubleTwist (it will launch automatically in Windows).
7. Set up your sync settings or just drag and drop media to your Droid.
8. doubleTwist will automatically convert your videos so that they play on your Droid.

Hope that helps! :welcome:

OK, if your Droid is connected to the PC with the USB cable, look at the top of your Droid (the notification bar at the top) and pull it down. You should have a notification 'USB debugging connected' and 'USB connected'. Touch the second one and select 'Mount'. Now the SD card on your Droid is just like any other external drive or thumbdrive. You can cruise all over it. Do what you have to do and then before you disconnect the USB cable, pull the notification bar down again and touch 'Turn off USB storage'. That will safely remove the Droid from your PC. If you just disconnect, you can really damage the poor little thing. Have fun!

lol no i know what your saying..i have done all that. my problem is the "exploring" part you mention. as soon as i try to do anything from my pc onto what SHOULD be the Droid Folder it says "error device is not ready"... do i have to do something from the droid first other than mount it? create a folder or something? idk lol
