Phone can't charge if the screen stays on?

I am the developer of a Night Clock that stays on throughout the night and I have had several complaints from Droid X owners that they wake up in the morning and the phone is dead.

Has anyone had the problem of the phone not charging if you have the screen on? As in, the battery icon shows that it is charging, but if the screen stays on (doesn't time out), the battery wil actually discharge? Thanks.

i have never had this issue. i use the usb debugging and have the option stay awake turned on. and have never had my phone discharge while charging. then again im not using night clock? maybe i should test it?
