Paying for apps

Ok so I was thinking about buying some apps but wasn't sure what to buy and what to keep free. any input?

My philosophy is to only purchase apps that give me more ability than the free counterparts. Like Beautiful Widgets...awesome support amd updates that you get with the paid version. Also, Launcher Pro Plus...allows more customizations when you unlock it by purchasing it.

he only other apps i generally buy are apps that allow my phone more freedom, such as Koushs Bootstarpper and JRummys Boot Logo Changer...both have been more than worth the $2 or so I paid for them..

And lastly, games. Sometimes a free game is just enough to get you hooked into paying for the full game. Fruit Ninja is a good case of this for me...I liked the game so I paid $1.99 I think to get the full game, and it will always be there for me no matter how many times I ROM or reset my phone.

Best thing to do is look at the apps you think you might use, read the USer Comments to see how it is rated, and then decide if you need the full paid version or can get by with just the free version...

If I install a free app and really like and use it a lot, I buy the paid version in order to support the developer. My theory is that he/she will be motivated then to develop more great apps for us.

I found no difference in the free and paid version of juice defender but like stated above I like to support those that work well for me.
Sign is an awesome speed dial. Power Amp is a great music player.
Vignette camera app works great.
Circle Launcher for widgets.
Easy Switch for power management
Alarm Pro + alarm clock
There are more that I have but those are my favorite for my uses

buying apps is a good idea....keeps new and better apps coming out. According to Appbrain I have spent like $114 in apps so far.

It is like a try before you buy. Most of my apps are free and i use adblocker to block the ads. But with some that you purchase you get extra features that are not in the free versions. I recently purchased FLOW for Facebook and it is the best 1.49 I have spent. I actually get instant notifications from FB now. LOL

Plus I think all the devs dont get a paycheck for making them, so donating a buck to them keeps them active and allows them to come up with new and improved apps.

Its true, most apps that are free are supported by the built-in ads...and i would be willing to bet the Devs of those apps dont make nearly as much money as the Devs who sell their apps straight up.

On the other hand, there are those apps that have a free ad supported version and then a paid full version, and the free version is just to give you an idea of what the paid app can do...these I believe pay the Dev considerably more...but I have no first-hand knowledge...

Some free versions do all you need them to, and its those that you might consider dropping a donation to the Dev...while some are fully paid apps, and are worth every cent you spend on them...it all boils down to what you want and need vs what you can afford...:)

In the old days of shareware, PC software was (and still is) quite highly priced but Android software is so darned cheap (I think the most expensive ones I have seen are maybe $14 or so) that it almost makes no sense to have ad-supported or free apps. I mean, the phone itself was a couple hundred to begin with and the apps I've gotten are $1 or $2. So downright inexpensive, it's almost laughable to not buy them.

That being said, there are a LOT of apps I've gotten for free (the ad-supported ones) that I hardly ever use but wanted to try anyway and sometimes tinker with or use them to show off the phone. Those are probably worth the $1 but, since I never really use them, that would have been $1 too much (20 apps or so = about $20 I'd rather have in my pocket.) So it's good to have the option to try before you buy. If a developer is willing to take the chance that I'll buy after trying the ad-supported version, then that's their choice. If the app is good, then the paid version is almost always worth the meager cost of a dollar or two.

You guys have been a good help thank u it pretty much is worth it to buy the apps that are the one dollar and also I like to support the devs definatly when there apps are completly free and they only ask for donations either way I think I will be buying alot more apps now what's a couple of bucks gonna hurt
