Is it just me or do the majority of the free apps in the market ask for permissions they don't really need?

For example, when something like ringdroid need access to my personal info and the internet, how do I know it's not gathering that info for spammers?

Nope, not paranoid at all IMO, while I do like most sheeple do and simply allow them, I always read the list and at least half the time wonder, wtf does this app need that access for??

I do believe it needs the internet access for updates maybe?

And maybe personal information to see what version you have currently?

Not an expert, I'm just brainstorming.
