... or the Fascinate?

I hate to start another "vs" review but for some reason I feel like I'm missing something with my Droid 2. Does the Fascinate hold any edge over the Droid 2? I mean, besides the physical keyboard it looks like it may be a superior phone when FroYo comes out for the Fascinate. Or maybe I'm just second guessing myself...

I wouldn't get a Fascinate unless you plan on rooting and making changes and/or running a custom ROM. Out of the box, the Fascinate is locked to Bing Search and Maps...you can install Google Maps from the Market, Google Search is actually blocked (at least is now) and would have to be installed alternately. There are evidently ways to to get around at least some of the Bing default settings (I haven't been actively following it) but they likely require root.

I've compared Bing and Google search results on the two phones, and Bing is definitely second class. Didn't do much w/the Bing Maps but it also came off lesser in what I looked at.

Other than that it looks like a nice phone, vibrant screen and all.

It is pretty freakin' big - as big as the DX, yet 'only' a 4.0" vs. 4.3" screen on the DX.

I think I'd go DX before Fascinate - for the same size you get a larger screen, not sure if the Fascinate has HDMI out or not, and of course you have full Google integration w/out jumping through any hurdles.

I am sorry to say but anything that uses bing as the main browser isn't fascinating to me. Browse for some apps and see if that will fill the void that feel is missing from the droid 2.

What you probably want to ask yourself is if you need (prefer) the physical keyboard or not. Honestly it would be either the d2 or dX, and I prefer the d2 cuz froyo and flash was almost made for it, the DX still seems to be having issues with getting froyo.

Maybe the thing that appeals to me about the galaxy s phones is that you can hack and mod the mess outta them with relative ease... I guess I could wait for that to come for the droid 2... I'm not really diggin the 2 week wait time for the Droid X.

Im rooted, and I just helped 2 guys root ther d2 at work. All you need is a custom recovery to modify. 928 droid has a theme that I am running. You can touch every thing but the kernel to o/c.

I've tried to root several times and it keeps getting hung up on that first" chmod" command.... So frustrating. Could you PM me and help me out? I'd appreciate that. I thought I was fairly smart until I tried to root this thing.
