Notification Panel

Hi everyone,
I received my new Droid over the weekend and I notice that in the notification panel, I do not get an icon for when a voicemail is left or even for facebook or anything like that. I believe those are suppose to show up. Is this something that I need to manually set up??

when you open each program hit the menu button on the bottom of the screen and go into notifications to set up what you like-

so would I go in under phone and then click menu button? When I do that nothing comes up but I might be doing something wrong.
