Here's the situation...
A week ago I got the DroidX through Verizon and activated it in a Verizon Network area. It worked perfectly in the lower 48.
I arrived yesterday in Alaska which doesn't have verizon coverage, but does have 3G. I can't receive or send picture messages nor can I access the internet or my apps unless I am connected via wi-fi.
I used to have a blackberry through verizon and it worked fine in AK as long as it was activated/updated in a verizon network area...
