Hello. Just upgraded from a DROIDX to a Razr Maxx and I find the transitions ...interesting.

I was very ready to get rid of the DROIDX because of several issues ongoing and getting worse. GPS was very intermittent until the day it stopped completely. And the battery would get hot when charging in the car, up into the 120°+ range. Some of the apps i used without problems for a year began to glitch or lock intermittently. On top of that, having to carry extra batteries and charger with me all the time was a real pain. When Verizon offered me the opportunity to upgrade I jumped on it.

Now I find my Maxx still heats up in the car with a brand new charger. In other cars and with other chargers the results of the same. When using the car charger and GPS the temperature rose to 125°. Yesterday using GPS and Waze on the way to work, the phone locked up tight. Since I couldn't pull the battery, like on the X, I practically panicked until finding a solution on the net.

Of course, Verizon tells me they have never heard of any of these problems before on either phone. I feel special.

If anyone has insight, I'm listening.

I know that when charging in the car phones (at least in my experience) tend to run hotter then when charged from a wall charger. Also, the same can be said when running the GPS and using navigation, so the combination of the 2 can definitely heat up the phone. And 125 is definitely warmer then daily use but I do not believe it to be a dangerous temperature. My phones have reached that temp in the fast and have been OK afterwards. Prolonged periods of time at higher temps like this may be damaging but otherwise you should be fine.

Was the phone also in direct view of sunlight, that may have intensified the heat as well...

Welcome. Yep completely normal. Using GPS causes a lot of strain on the device especially while charging. The size of the battery also plays a role in the heat issues. A battery that size in such a small footprint will cause more heat than usual.

Thanks for the welcome. Part of the time, yes, it was in the sun (universal mount attached to windshield). The first time it happened this was my assumption, so i moved the mount right in front of the A/C & opened 'er up full blast.

It did not work.

At times the phone responded the same way at night.

JSM9872, that's encouraging. My 1st sphone was a BBStorm. It hit 125° once. Then, it died. Permanently. Totally, irreversibly bricked. Bad memories.
