I am new to android all together, so what are some must have apps?

Performance are the main ones I am looking for, but also entertainment/etc.

I am new to Android as well, so I'll be paying close attention to responses to your post. So far, I have Amazon Kindle and Google Sky Map. I would love to know what others have found to be "must have" apps.

Sound manager

Thanks ccgustavus. I looked it up and it appears to be a great way to control your sounds without going into settings. I read some reviews where people are mentioning issues when going into silence mode. They say the phone still vibrates. Have you had this problem?

When you set up the time, uncheck vibrate when you want it quiet. I've used it on two phones, silent notifications at night back on in morning.

Songbird it is (in my opinion) the best music player cosmetically
And poweramp if you want to equalize your music to your liking

do the "Tethering" apps get around the providers charging you for tethering?

xScope is a really excellent browser. I paid for it but now I see it's free.
I love Handcent for messaging.
Mortplayer for audio books.
still haven't found a good podcast manager.
