Music doesn't stop with incoming text/email

I listen to the music on my droid a lot (car, working out, etc) with headphones. Before the 2.1 update, anytime there was an incoming text or email the music would silence for about a second to notify me of the new message. Now (after the 2.1 update) the music continues to play through and I never know when I have a new message. The problem is that my droid is on vibrate mode a lot and whenever I'm running or working out, I rarely feel my phone vibrate. Anybody know of a way to turn it back to the way it was (silence music when new message comes in)?

For some reason the phone (before and after 2.1 update) never silenced the music when an incoming call was coming in. If anyone knows how to fix that as well, please reply.
