microsoft exchange and categories missing

I initially moved my Outlook contacts via companionlink. It worked fine initially, but when I sync'd again, it deleted misc. info. Then my company told me that i could use Exchange to continually update contacts and calendar. When they set this up, my contacts were doubled and tripled. I deleted the Google connection, and deleted companionlink, which eliminated the duplication, but now, the categories do not appear in any of the contacts. When I look at groups now, all of my groups are listed twice, but no contacts are members. Is there a way to delete the duplication, and, is there a way to have the categories sync?
