Memory Card Usage?

What HAS to be put on the memory card? I have an old Droid X that is not active anymore but still works fine on wifi even without a mem card in it. Makes me wonder exactly what has to be the card.

Nothing does from what I understand. In past phones, any pictures and music had to be on an external sd card but this phone can put it in the internal memory. WiFi should have no effect on the memory card. unless you are talking about the SIM card in which I have no knowledge lol
