im looking for a guide on how to use my x as a wifi hotspot for free.

verizon network.

is this possible, i really dont want to pay 20 bucks a month to verizon for this.

There is an app in the market you can use. I know there is a Tethering app for $10 on there that people recommend. $10 bucks for an app beats $20 bucks a month.

If your rooted.... Goto the market and download Wireless tether.
