I have never seen that. I wonder if you've found some malware. When you see the popup, switch over to a process viewer to see what's running. Maybe try killing things one at a time until you find what's causing this.

I've been prompted for the Google Captcha before, but never after I've successfully logged in for the first time after switching OSes.....

Are you getting e-mail and all that jazz? If not, I would wager that it's because Google is trying to get your login to happen proper.y
