Was quite the shootout.

The gunman apparently was in possession of a shotgun but it sounded to me like the police (pistols) were lighting him up.

I don't think this actually happened.

Federal Courthouses are in a "Gun Free Zone"

Therefore, it was impossible.

;)

Seriously, prayers go out to the officers and their families.

An Armed Society is a Polite Society...

The so called gun-free zones only help the criminal element, they are not a deterrent to anyone wishing to cause harm.

I am trying to keep my rant :soapbox: mode off.

I'm reading the book On Combat right now and there is a direct link that media violence (video games, tv, movies etc) is a huge contributor to the increase in violence that we are and will see in this country.

I'm all for action movies and such but as the author noted in the book just as smoking causes cancer violent images in the media spurn violence.

Before anybody says "Well I watched all kinds of violence on tv and played many violent video games and I'm ok. Thats an excuse"

It's not and it is known in the media that this is in fact true. but just as the tobacco company's will claim smoking doesn't cause cancer the media will claim violence in the media doesn't spurn violence in society.

Don't get me wrong I love violent movies and such and I will continue to watch them. I'm only saying that this is a reality that we should be aware of. So for those raising kids it's something to think about.

A lot of research has went into the subject and the facts are out there.

**edit: Here's a little blurp about the author. He's been there and is a seasoned warrior.**

About the Author

A former army Ranger, paratrooper, West Point Professor of Military Science and author of the classic book, ON KILLING, Lt. Col. Dave Grossman is currently the Director of the Killology Research Group and one of the world's foremost experts in the field of human aggression and the psychology of combat.
