Just got me a new droid, now what? if it is to update the firmware, can someone please point me to how to do it?

if it isn't up to date you will get a message within the next few days telling you to update

go on the market and look for fun apps

You could root it if you want, or get familiar with it first.

and also, i've just connected it via USB to my laptop, and it the 16gb SD doesn't show up in my computer.... how do i fix this?

and what is USB Debugging on the droid? should i turn it off?

You can customize it a lot more, overclock, wifi tethering, and many more things.
And you can keep USB debugging on

You have to click on the USB menu in the pull down screen on your droid and click on Mount to see the sd card on your pc.
