Sounds like BS to me.. Apple stated they did away with it to gain space and to make the phone thinner.
I don't see how the hardware can be hidden..

Jeffrey, all you need is a 3.5mm drill bit to verify ;)
Although the IPx? waterproofing might be diminished [emoji14]

I can't wait to see how many people will actually try this once the phone is out and then complain that their phones don't work
 
I wonder if the Square reader and other devices will work through the adapter?

I know it's not an iphone, but maybe I'll have to try this on my Moto Z. Just have to find my reader. Not even sure that thing still works in the first place. Been a few years since I used it and never used it much to begin with. Didn't even cross my mind as a factor.

Haven't forgotten about this. Got the phone all setup for daily use today.

Bad news though...I don't seem to have gotten the Type-C to headphone adapter...
