Is there a good app for Text alerts?

As of yet, when I get a text, all I get is a audible "droid" voice and then I have to dig around for the text.

Is there an easier way?

handcent, best txt app so far!

1. open the messaging widget

2.open the menu (left of the Home icon at the bottom of your Droid)

3.open settings

4.Scroll down to notifications

5. make sure that has a green checkmark (touch it to toggle on/off)

Now when you get a text it will appear in the top status bar, just touch it and scroll your finger down to show it.

I just loaded up Handcent and it looks really cool so far. Love the voice-to-text option.

Could someone explain the need for both HC and SMS popup?
