is it possible to overcharge battery??

I usually charge my battery every single night when I go to bed. Is it bad to leave the phone on the charger for extended periods of times after it is fully charged??

Not that I have seen...been leaving mine on a charger all night every night for 2 months....

... no but really I charge every night as well. No issues.

No, most, if not all, electronics using rechargeable batteries use a overcharge protection circuit. I believe it is why the first 90% of the battery charges quickly and the last 10% is a slow charge to prevent over charge.
