You can save the snickering and dumb comments pretty please, this is a serious question...

I want to make my phone porn/objectionable content proof. Who cares why.

I initially figured I could change my account settings with Verizon to "T13" or something. Still was able to get to some images through Google that were not good and also through android Market app. Besides, too easy to change the settings back unless I have someone else set the password on my account. And.. T13 messed up my navigation and something else I don't recall what.

So I figures I would Root and delete Youtube app and several others I don't want, along with the browser and market app. Well, looks like I can actually do this but, uh oh, now that I'm understanding how things work better, it's too easy to regain access. And I'm not sure if deleting browser is going to mess up my ability to do email or not so I havent tryed yet.

Basicly, I want a crippled Droid. I want to do the following and I need help figuring out how.

1) I want to retain at least Navigation, Email and a handful of helpful apps.
2) I want to be able to lock myself out of Internet browsing, market browsing, you tube, etc...
3) I want it to be reversible so I can update OS, etc...
4) I want it to be very difficult to undo. Should either require someone else to make any changes (such as password that I don't know) or take a healthy amount of time (at least 30 minutes).

The best I can come up with is Root, delete all the stuff, hope I can still do what I want, and remove ability to tether and any backups from my PC. Will this do it? Any thoughts? I actually need help here.

Plan 2 is forget the Droid, which would be a bummer, and go back to one of the few few phones that can't connect to the Internet. It would be lame but worth it for my peace of mind if I can't hobble my Droid like I want to.

Gracias

Surfing objectionable material is a choice not a requirement.

You can limit exposure and make it difficult to find objectionable material using the methods you mentioned, but there is always going to be a way to find it / undo the changes.

yes, that helps... next?

An alcoholic has a choice to drink or not, yet it's a good idea not to carry a bottle of whiskey in his pocket. Comprende?

Absolutely right. But if I can find a way to make those changes very inconvenient, it would help tremendously.

I don't really understand wither. As Backnblack said, you only see it if you search for it. I have had my droid for a long time and never accidentally stumbled upon porn or something. Just keep your searching to good terms.

Are you trying to get your kid a Droid or something? Otherwise I don't understand why you want to do what you ask. And if that is the case, you should trust your kid and teach hi to grow up right... or don't get him a smartphone if hes a kid. I was 24 when I got my first smartphone hah.

Then IMHO any smartphone is not good for you. IMHO it's impossible to have net access and be free of objectionable material 100%

You need to get a different device. You're carrying around a keg.

Comprende? : )

I'd say you're in a tough spot.

In your situation.... I'd get rid of the Droid... go back to a 'non smart phone' and pick up a TomTom or something for nav.

It's not worth trying to backwards engineer your Droid to remove all it's features.

Good luck!

much better answer sir, and well taken. I've come to the conclusion a smartphone maty not be for me. Is it possible however, to turn off net access completely yet still get other data? in other words, no browser at all?

Never heard of a troll?

Trolls live under bridges... No no I am saying in all respect I can not possibly comprehend why this thread is existent. If I don't want to shoot someone I don't take out a gun. If i don't want to buy something, I don't buy it... it's self control.

Backnblack - non constructive? what are we helping out here...
