It's really disheartening to hear that Verizon store reps tell people to use task killers on Android phones. Think I've read more than one post where the store rep actually installed it for the customer.

Have had my Droid since a few days after release and never installed any sort of app killer or memory manager. I use the phone hard, have lots of apps, have no problems. No f/c on Launcher Pro either, in fact I can't remember the last time I had a f/c in anything. In all these months I've probaly had about 6 f/c, it's so rare I don't remember what app it was.

It's not Blackberry, it's not Windows Mobile, it doesn't need a task killer or a memory manager. Leave it alone. Save your sanity.

^^ this. What makes me mad is that I have to tell them I tried installing one so they believe me my phone was actually broken.

I had been running Advanced Task Manager, and after reading through most of this thread I decided to uninstall it.

It's been a week, and my battery is lasting a lot longer now, and the phone runs faster than it ever did. I'm not rooted, and I've found that if I just let it do it's thing, it does it well.

If you have to kill an app or apps to make Your device run better or get better battery life its time to delete that app(s)

Android is a lot like your heart. You don't have to tell it how to beat or when to beat it does it automatically. Conversely you don't eat a bunch of crap and expect it to operate efficiently.

I feed my Droid only the best "foods" : )

I get rid of any app(s) that degrade performance.

In fact, ATK was making my battery life worse because after it would 'kill' something, the phone would rerun the app again causing this horrible loop of rebooting the program and using MORE battery. IMHO because I don't know what else could be causing the drain. It didn't happen before I installed ATK.

This, people are just, blatantly said, stupid to research and understand that android is based off of linux and will store these apps and use virtually no resources while chached for quicker loading later. Auto kill all day you want the apps are just going to keep rerunning and kill the battery. Whoever made these task killers need to have their androids taken away from them. The only time I ever use or see the need for a task killer is when one of my apps goes a little crazy on me. In which case I use system panel for that.

I hear what you are saying. I do understand that it's not needed. NOW!

When I originally bought the phone, the rep at Verizon physically installed ATK on my phone himself. He told me I would need it to keep the tasks from running in the background.

It has taken me awhile to realize that these programs are not needed. He was supposed to be the professional and I listened. What better did I know? This is my first smartphone. I'm still learning.

The people at Verizon need to stop telling customers about these stupid programs and installing them on customer's phones, who walk out of the store thinking that they now need a task killer. IMO.

Wow, what a turn this thread has taken from the first page.

I have task panel installed on my phone. The only reason I have it there is sometimes I want to close the browser out and it's a short cut to doing that. I don't use it for any thing else, I don't have it set to auto close anything.

Using a task killer in that manner I don't believe has any effect on the overall operation of the Droid. And I would say I do that about once every two weeks or so.

CK, the heart analogy was brilliant. I too don't recommend anybody install a task killer but I'd be hypocritical if I didn't admit that I do have one installed.

Hook you understand what they are and how to use them. Verizon's reps are telling people to use this stuff the wrong way which leads to propaganda and a thousands threads about task killers. To me having someone install something in my phone without me asking is the same as the meter reader coming into the house and fixing my fridge instead if doing his actual job. Ya know?

LOL...just like how I had my air conditioner and furnace serviced, but somehow ended up with a broken water pressure regulator because they were messing with things they shouldn't have. That's what I get for listening and letting them fiddle with things they weren't there for.

My trust levels for Verizon reps is steadily sinking.
