I am new to the droid x please help.

I have a droid x with andriod 2.2 . And system version 2.3.15.MB810.Verizon.en.Us

I think I want to root my phone but all I really want is free hotspot service. Do I need to root to do this? And currently my phone is wanting me to install version 2.3.340.en.US
Should I install this or keep saying later. Help me please.

Yes, you will need to root for Wireless Tether to work but, its not very difficult to do. Go ahead and accept the update..it'll do it manually eventually anyway.

Grab the update...then find Z4 root (version 1.3 i think) on XDA forums, install the .apk, get root (may take up to 20 minutes) and get wireless tether from the market. and enjoy your free wireless tethering.
