How to See What is Running

Not just the built in one that shows applications running - but i would like to see what is causing my CPU to spike every once in a while when it is just sitting there? Is there an app that shows what is running (even behind the scene) and what percentage of CPU it is using?

Thanks - did a search on here and on market but too much junk came up.

Sorry, I don't know of anything. I just think you're worrying about stuff you don't really need to worry about. Is your Droid giving you problems, and how do you know the CPU is "spiking?"

I'm running SetCPU and can see it spiking up to max speed and back down to minimum a couple of times a minute (sometimes less) when it is just sitting there. I am also running SeePU and it goes red at same time. So i was just wondering what was making it do this. Not a major issue - but it does lag when i am trying to do something once in a while and i see it spiking.

I am running BB 1.0 at 900mhz max 250 min.

I've actually been wanting a program like that myself, something akin to the Windows Task Manager... It's a bit OCD, but I like to be able to see exactly what is running at any given time and how many resources it's taking up...
I've been working with Windows for waaayyyy too long :)

It will probably just drive you crazy trying to figure out what is going on, but SystemPanel provides much of what you're looking for. I use it frequently just to get some insight into the way the o/s handles demands and which apps insist on demanding cpu cycles from the o/s.

Frankly, from my observations, it appears that much of system activity is associated with such services as checking for email, messages, gps location, etc. And because apps each run on their own schedules, it's inevitable that they will make simultaneous demands from time to time.

Unless you're willing to cut your Droid off from the outside world, there is almost no feasible way to control such activity.

Thanks for the info on SystemPanel - i installed it and noticed it was SetCPU eating the CPU usage - go figure. I uninstalled it and usage went back to normal. I heard you dont need it anyway with Pete's BB.

Thanks.

You don't need it. Another method for getting info is SpareParts -> usage statistics.. will give you CPU access time

Yeah, I downloaded SystemPanel after I saw you mention it here, I like it... Exactly what I was looking for, thank you ;)
