As it turns out Towelroot not only roots devices like the Galaxy S5, Note 3, and a long list of other devices, it also roots devices like the Amazon Fire TV! In order to root the Fire TV you will need to grab the Fire TV side app which allows you to sideload apps on the Fire TV. You will also want to grab both the TowelRoot and SuperSU apps. Once you have the necessary files you will want to make sure both your PC and Fire TV are connected to your wifi network, then you will open up the Fire TV side app on your PC, find the IP address of the Fire TV, type in the path to both the TowelRoot app and the SuperSU app (ie /users/name/desktop/files), and tap the "Side Load Button". Now that TowelRoot and SuperSU is on your Fire TV you will want to simply open the TowelRoot app and click "Make it Ra1n". Now your Fire TV is Rooted! There is still no custom recovery for the Fire TV so you will still be stuck with the Amazon UI unfortunately. You can head to the link below for all the files needed to root the Fire TV!
