How to revert back to stock 2.1 from 2.2 or how to root android 2.2

I just manually updated my droid to 2.2 using an update.zip file from Motorola Droid Android 2.2 update can be manually installed and I am fairly unsatisfied with the features that are unavailable because Verizon wants to give Android users more of a reason to upgrade to the newly released devices. Now I see that I'm going to have to root my Droid to gain access to all the features and functionality I can achieve on my device.

Now, I am looking for a way to go back from 2.2 to 2.1, or a way to root 2.2 so I can open up my phone's features and such. Any help/tips/walkthroughs would be greatly appreciated :]

seriously man im wondering the same ****! z4root and universal androot dont work, at least not on motorola droid. dunno abt droid 2 or x but i imagine similar. and the new version auto uploaded over writing my root!? so what Do we do?

I'm even rooted with 2.2.1 so it does work.
