How hard is it to replace a digitizer?

I just picked up a thunderbolt from a girl at school for 20 bucks. The screen has two cracks in it but the lcd is fine. Ive watched many vidoes on replacing digitizers, but videos can be deceiving.
I found a digitzer feom htc for around 15 dollars and was quoted 110 for the repair. Is it really that easy to mess up one these phones that I should pay 95 dollars for someone else to do it?

They aren't that difficult if you have the correct tools.

The tools are dependent on the phone. Unfortunately, I'm not familiar with the Thunderbolt.
