How can you play VIDEO in the background

I like to download video podcasts like news etc.... most of the time I do not need to "watch" the video, only listen to the audio. Is there anyway to keep the file playing while 1. Switching the screen off and 2. Doing other things.

Very disappointed with this issue on my Eris because even on my Ipod Touch there was a awkward work around to allow this.

Start the podcast, and then shift screens and do something else (????)
